Writing is a complex process. It involves coordinating handwriting, spelling, and grammar, selecting a topic, formulating ideas, planning, organizing, producing, and revising text. Unfortunately, it is often not taught as such. Our specialists model this process using a step-by-step method. This process is structured and done through scaffolding with concept maps and graphic organizers. A framework is presented to the student to support each type of writing (narrative, descriptive, persuasive, etc.). Once the initial draft is written, each student is then taught to edit his or her writing through a modeled approach. Students can become independent writers and even enjoy the process.
